Replica Island Development Blog!

This is the first post for this new-fangled Replica Island development blog. I will use this space to talk about the development of Replica Island, both in terms of code and game design. Since this is the first post, here's the low-down on the game:

  • Replica Island is a 2D side-scrolling platformer for Android devices.
  • It stars the Android robot, who (it turns out) has a pretty devastating butt stomp move.
  • The source for Replica Island will be released with the game. It's written in Java.
  • Replica Island is currently in Alpha. I'm working hard on finishing it up.
  • When it is released, Replica Island will be available for free on Android Market.
  • The official Replica Island web site is http://www.replicaisland.net.

  1. Hey Chris, great work! U won a legions of fans dude!

    But i have a suggestion:
When i play the game on a motorola droid, i can't use the d-pad because he is in the same side of the touch controllers. Maybe a option to "flip" the Hud and touch controls to prevent others models like droid forced to play with "g-sensor".

Anyway, thanks for the source code too!

  2. I love this game! I'm playing through it a second time at the moment. I do have a bug on my Motorola click though. After completing any level the screen goes black and I can't continue with the game unless I 'force close' it and restart it. Not a deal breaker by any means, but it is a little annoying. Hope we get to see more from the team soon!

  3. I'm addicted to it, it plays well on my Android but at times will lock the scene and causes you to have to completely close out, good thing it starts you back on correct level.
Would LOVE to see more games like this.

  4. looks like a great game but it keeps repeating the demo after the entry sequence on my Eris. The Professor keeps coming up.

  7. Great game! I just beat it on my MT3G.

    Here's a suggestion for phones that don't have a d-pad:
*Use the volume control for left/right control (I don't think Replica Island uses up/down, so this could work very well).
*Make it possible to move the jump and attack buttons to the other side of the screen for easier access when using the volume buttons.

  9. Great game. There are a few very annoying I've come across when playing on my NookColor. First off, it says your supposed to tilt the phone to control the machine possesion orb, but that does not seem to do anything on the NookColor. Second, the tilt control settings don't work either for the NookColor when I have them set.
